Erika Burke Rossa‘s Rain Reign is the moving tale of a 12-year-old neurodivergent girl, who loves homonyms, prime numbers, and her dog Rain. When Rain goes missing after a hurricane, Rose is determined to find her with the help of her uncle.
Felice Kakaletris gives a compelling performance as Rose, illustrating the many hurdles she must overcome as a result of her condition. Jeremy Sisto is also strong as the frustrated and angry single dad Wesley. Paul Rudd is as charming as ever, portraying the witty and warmhearted Uncle Weldon.
The story is a recognizable one, but it still has a few unexpected turns. A realistic family film that avoids excessive sentimentality is always welcome. It is also great to see Rudd and Sisto together again, 31 years after they shared the screen in Clueless.
