Burn is a film about marginalized youth in Japan, centered on the lives of its two main characters, Ju-Ju (Nana Mori) and Mitsuba (Aoi Yamada).
Makoto Nagahisa takes a hyper-stylized approach, employing slow motion, freeze frame, animation, and intertitles. Consequently, the film will likely resonate more with those who prefer aesthetic experimentation over a conventional narrative.
It is relentlessly bleak yet visually striking, filled with haunting imagery.
Burn is screening on May 12 and 14 at the Seattle International Film Festival.
