I remember watching György Pálfi’s debut feature Hukkle years ago and loving it. Hen, another dialogue-sparse film, which follows a hen’s journey trying to survive, did not disappoint.
There is seamless camerawork and excellent use of music. A romantic scene of sorts set to a Greek love song and an escape scene featuring a vocalise version of Ravel’s Bolero stand out.
The plotline involving a group of human smugglers took the film in an unexpected direction. The analogy between the hen on the run and the immigrants made it more disturbing and provided additional food for thought.
Hen is part of the 2026 Seattle International Film Festival lineup. Dekanalog will release it in the U.S.
