Alireza Khatami nods to Buñuel and Lynch in the revenge thriller THE THINGS YOU KILL, one of my favorites among the films I have seen during Sundance 2025 and the first great WTF movie of the year.
It is dreamlike, puzzling, and features breathtaking cinematography and intricate camerawork including a mind-blowing mirror shot that might end up being talked about in film schools. The fact that Khatami named his two main characters Ali and Reza is not a random choice. Ekin Koç and Erkan Kolçak Köstendil are exceptional in these challenging roles. I can’t wait to watch this again.
While the film is seeking distribution, you can watch Ekin Koç in two other great films available on VOD, Emin Alper’s Burning Days from Cannes and Ferit Karahan’s Brother’s Keeper from Berlinale.
