Life After – Sundance 2025

After winning the Directing Award in U.S. Documentary section of Sundance 2022 with his self-portrait I Didn’t See You There, Reid Davenport is back at the festival with the eye-opening LIFE AFTER, which explores the right to die laws for people with disabilities in Canada and U.S.

Davenport starts the film with a suspenseful investigation into Elizabeth Bouvia’s whereabouts, who had sparked media coverage of the topic in the 80s. He then introduces us to many subjects whose lives have been affected by these laws.

I always appreciate it when a documentary filmmaker decides to include opposing perspectives and what you hear from some of the people with disabilities will likely surprise you. Through their voices and the information the film provides, you might actually change your opinion on the subject.
