Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t – Venice 2025

Gianni Di Gregorio co-wrote, directed, and stars in Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t, a distinctly European comedy/drama about aging, family, and companionship.

After her husband Helmut cheats on her with one of his students, Sofia takes her children Olga and Tommaso to Rome to live with her retired father, affectionately called Professore by the locals.

Even with a familiar story and simple production values, Di Gregorio’s humor and relatability make this an agreeable and easy watch. The parallel storyline of Tom Wlaschiha’s character Helmut walking from Germany to Italy to demonstrate to Sofia how much he wants to get back with her was also pretty amusing.

It is not really a film aimed at the cinephiles in Venice, but rather one you might consider watching with your family.
