Tom Nesher’s Seattle International Film Festival drama COME CLOSER deals with the grief resulting from a sudden loss and the transformative power of love between people sharing that grief. Nesher lost her brother in 2018 and the film is partially based on her own experiences.
Newcomer Lia Elalouf is absolutely magnetic as Eden giving one of the most memorable performances of the year. She and Darya Rosenn’s shy and reserved Maya complement one another. Complex emotions are conveyed delicately. There were some bold visual choices, which might not be to everyone’s liking, but I think it looked fantastic.
I’ll be keeping my eyes open for what’s next from both Nesher and Elalouf. After in-person and virtual SIFF screenings, Greenwich Entertainment will release it in the US.
