Eric LaRue

The subject Michael Shannon’s directorial debut ERIC LARUE tackles is similar to 2021’s excellent Mass. However it takes a totally different approach and I found it engrossing from beginning to end. Judy Greer and Alexander Skarsgard do great work here.

Asteroid City

Wes Anderson and Jake Perlin with Eric Hynes after Museum of Moving Image screening of ASTEROID CITY. His fans won’t be disappointed! The production design alone is to die for.

Cinnamon

Director Bryian Keith Montgomery Jr. with Pam Grier, Jeremie Harris, Hailey Kilgore, David Iacono, and producer Oz Scott at the Tribeca World Premiere of the very entertaining ‘90s throwback comedic crime thriller CINNAMON.

One Night With Adela

Filmed in a continuous take with a narrowing aspect ratio, trauma/revenge thriller One Night With Adela from Tribeca Festival starts slowly and takes an astonishing turn halfway through. Laura Galan from last year’s Sundance Midnight selection Piggy is brilliant as Adela. Don’t miss this when it’s streaming Tribeca At Home if you can’t catch it […]

Chasing Chasing Amy

Honestly I was only mildly interested in CHASING CHASING AMY when I first heard about it. It turned out to be both a beautiful love story and an unexpectedly revelatory making-of documentary. Worth seeing at Tribeca Festival or when it’s streaming 6/19-7/2.

Last Night of Amore

Andrea Di Stefano’s Last Night of Amore with Pierfrancesco Favino is an expertly executed edge-of-your-seat cop thriller. It is currently screening at Tribeca Festival. Fans of neo-noir and Italian crime films should run to see it.

Break The Game

Break The Game from Tribeca Festival is a documentary with a lot on its mind including transphobia, depression, cyberbullying, social media addiction, and romance. As someone with zero interest in gaming, I still found it compelling. There are parallels between Narcissa locking herself inside of her apartment to interact with her followers and people who […]

Bucky F*cking Dent

While the plot is thin and far stretched, it is nice to see David Duchovny and Logan Marshall-Green as father and son in BUCKY F*CKING DENT, which just had its World Premiere at Tribeca Festival. It has many funny and genuinely emotional moments until ultimately sentimentalism takes over.

Bad Things

Bad Things from Tribeca Festival takes many elements from The Shining and creates an amusing queer remix. As it is the case with many horror movies, it is best not to dwell too much on whether everything makes sense. It will be on Shudder on 8/25. For those who cannot handle too much gore, it […]

This Is Not Financial Advice

THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE from Tribeca Festival is the crypto documentary that you have either been waiting for or did not know you wanted. It chronicles the highs and lows in the lives of several colorful crypto investors and is in turns entertaining and horrifying.
