Break The Game

Break The Game from Tribeca Festival is a documentary with a lot on its mind including transphobia, depression, cyberbullying, social media addiction, and romance. As someone with zero interest in gaming, I still found it compelling. There are parallels between Narcissa locking herself inside of her apartment to interact with her followers and people who have put themselves behind barriers during the pandemic.

While we all know transphobia hit a peak recently, the level of it in the online gaming community still surprised me. Her journey and the film start out in a claustrophobic space and take us to open horizons and possibilities. It was both inspiring and romantic.

It will stream as part of Tribeca At Home from 6/19 to 7/2.
