Black Eyed Susan, cult director Scooter McCrae’s first film in 21 years, explores the implications of where AI technology is going as it relates to perverse, abusive behavior even if the victim is not a real person, but an advanced robot.
The provocative opening scene is sure to offend some unsuspecting viewers. After that it settles into a more conventional narrative, but make no mistake, it does not shy away from violence, nudity, and vulgarities.
While there have been better films exploring similar territory, it still ponders relevant issues. With AI revolution seemingly being around the corner, we can use as many of these as we can get.
This one will mainly appeal to fans of B-movies, and Vinegar Syndrome, which produced the film, is an appropriate home for it.
