Broker

Hirokazu Kore-eda’s BROKER from last year’s Cannes Film Festival is on Hulu. His new one Monster premiered last week at this year’s festival and has yet to find a US distributor.

Adolfo

Sofia Auza’s ADOLFO is a 70-minute hidden gem among this year’s virtual Seattle International Film Festival streaming selections. It’s a simple, heartfelt film about two troubled souls connecting over the course of one night. It is visually pleasing with a lovely ambient score. Fans of Before Sunrise should check it out.

Victim/Suspect

The documentary VICTIM/SUSPECT from Nancy Schwartzman, which explores the treatment of sexual assault victims in the current justice system, had premiered at this year’s Sundance and is on Netflix today.

Seattle International Film Festival Virtual Lineup

Those fancy folks might be living it up in Cannes, but you can catch some great festival films from the comfort of your home as Seattle International Film Festival streaming week kicks off. Here’s a Letterboxd list of the Seattle virtual lineup: https://letterboxd.com/filmfestival/list/seattle-international-film-festival-2023-1/ https://www.siff.net/festival/film-finder-2023?pagesize=12&program=1789&genre=&director=&country=

The Fishbowl

I had missed LA PECERA (The Fishbowl) at Sundance and got a chance to view it via Seattle International Film Festival. The many haunting shots throughout and Isel Rodriguez’s performance as a woman with terminal cancer make it stand out. It is great to see new talent coming out of Puerto Rican cinema.
