Goran Stolevski’s HOUSEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS, which just screened at NewFest, breaks your heart and then warms it while keeping you occupied with a fast moving story that does not waste a minute. It is joyful to watch a found family film in which people are there for one another without expecting anything in return. The use of music, sound design, and the handheld camerawork were all outstanding.
The film, which is a departure in style for You Won’t Be Alone and Of An Age director Stolevski, had premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and is Macedonia’s entry for the 2024 Academy Awards. I would love to see it make the shortlist for Best International Film.
