Brock Bodell’s Hellcat is a claustrophobic horror tale that takes place in a moving RV for most of its running time. Lena wakes up in a trailer with an infection that is visibly spreading while being towed by a truck. The driver communicates via an intercom and claims to be taking her to see a doctor.
Bodell makes the most of the film’s small budget and delivers an engaging hour and a half with good performances from Dakota Gorman and Todd Terry. SNL’s James Austin Johnson is also memorable as the voice of a radio host.
The recurring theme of loss could have been explored further to deepen its resonance, but Hellcat is a thrilling ride that will satisfy many indie horror fans.
