Lemonade Blessing – Tribeca 2025

Chris Merola’s bawdy coming-of-age comedy LEMONADE BLESSING is awkward and uncomfortable to watch in the best possible way. It is also a hoot.

Catholic high schooler John (Jake Ryan) is crazy about his classmate Lilith (Skye Alyssa Friedman), who challenges him to commit acts he would consider sacrilege in the name of love. Conflicts arise between his desires and religious beliefs, which he has been grappling with for a while.

It’s hard to look at Ryan in school uniform without thinking of Jason Schwartzman’s character in Rushmore and Friedman reminded me of Alia Shawkat circa Arrested Development. Both are flawless in their roles.

Merola does not shy away from provocation, but portrays teenage struggles with sensitivity and empathy. Looking forward to what’s next from him and the two actors.
