Tolga Karaçelik’s Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer, which had its premiere at last year’s Tribeca Festival, is now available to watch on demand. It stars Steve Buscemi, John Magaro, and Britt Lower and is an entertaining NYC-set black comedy that requires suspension of disbelief. All three leads put their comedy chops to excellent use. Lower’s character is so different than the librarian in her other recent film Darkest Miriam, they really are a testament to her range.
I am a fan of Karaçelik’s Turkish films Ivy and Toll Booth. Ivy is such a unique and disturbing film. The script here is not as strong, but the cast, production design, the humor, and a great looking NYC make up for it.
