Babygirl – Venice 2024

Halina Reijn’s Babygirl is juicy and entertaining. Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson are both sensational. Even though it is a very different film than Reijn’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, one similarity is their use of music to great effect including a montage set to Never Tear Us Apart by Inxs and a hotel room scene with Father Figure by George Michael. There is also a fantastic dance scene at a club.

It is hard not to think of Eyes Wide Shut because of a rich and sexual Nicole Kidman and the dreamlike depiction of New York City as a backdrop. The script is not perfect and the ending feels a little too convenient, but those are minor complaints for a film that is definitely worth seeing.
