Mara Tamkovich’s UNDER THE GREY SKY tells the true story of Belarusian journalist Katsyaryna Andreeva, who was arrested for covering the brutal response to protests in 2020. Tamkovich recounts the events straightforwardly and manages to get under your skin.
We are all aware that this is happening in many countries around the world, yet seeing the human side of it is more effective than reading news snippets in understanding what is at stake when democracy is lost. Under The Grey Sky takes its name from the reggae protest song by the band Nizkiz. We get to hear it twice. The members of the band have been labeled as extremists and sentenced to prison.
